PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Dubasov Dance & Wellness strives to offer a safe, positive and welcoming environment where participants can create lasting friendships, build self confidence and experience joy through movement & expressive art forms. Our specialized programs are tailored to the needs and abilities of the participants and are taught at a pace that fosters success and growth. All programs focus on the creative process of learning and flourish on following the lead of the participants when the opportunities arise.

Children-Teen Programs

Dance Programs

  • Designed for participants with physical needs including, but not limited to, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida and various development delays
  • Follow a ballet premise while incorporating various dance styles based on the abilities and interests of the participants
  • Incorporates components of dance technique, free movement exploration, various genres of music, props, imagery, partner work and choreography
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Gain awareness and control of their body in space
    • Explore their imagination
    • Foster self-expression
    • Develop musicality
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography

Teen Combo Dance Program: An extension of our dance program, this program is designed for teens of varying diagnoses with independent mobility to explore complex dance routines of varying styles.

Movement Programs

  • Designed for participants diagnosed with Autism, ADD/ADHD and various cognitive and development delays
  • Incorporates components of various dance styles, movement exercises, free movement exploration, various genres of music, props, imagery, partner work, choreography (where appropriate), yoga and deep relaxation, heavy work activities and visual supports as necessary
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Gain awareness and control of their body in space
    • Explore their imagination
    • Foster self-expression
    • Releases excess energy
    • Decrease anxiety and gain independence
    • Improve cognitive understanding

Hip Hop Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Incorporates a warm-up, introduction to traditional hip hop moves, simple choreographed routines, freestyle dance activities ending with a cool down
  • Created to help participants:
    • Move their body in funky ways
    • Tap into their imagination with free style activities
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Improve cardiovascular function and muscle strength
    • Foster self expression
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography
    • Develop musicality

Tap Program

  • Designed for participants of varying diagnoses with independent mobility
  • Incorporates a warm-up, barre work, rhythm exercises, centre practice, across the floor movements, improvisation and games ending with a cool down and relaxation
  • Created to help participants:
    • Learn simple, fundamental tap technique
    • Develop a confident and strong sense of rhythm and musicality
    • Promote balance awareness
    • Be a part of a team – united by one sound
    • Engage in creative improvisation in a safe and welcoming environment
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Develop and improve fine and gross motor skills

Glee Club Programs

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Similar-aged siblings of participants are welcome to enrol at a discounted rate (where applicable – see Schedule/Reg’n Details & Pricing)
  • A musical-theatre based program that incorporates performing art forms including drama and mimicry, singing and musical activities and dance of varying styles
  • Created to help participants:
    • Explore their imagination
    • Build friendships in an inclusive environment
    • Improve verbal expression
    • Develop and improve expressive performance skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Learn to work in a collaborative manner
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography
    • Develop musicality

Yoga Programs

  • Designed for students of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Incorporates components of physical yoga postures, creative movement games, breath work, music, props, meditation, visualization, story-telling and deep relaxation
  • Created to help students:
    • Develop self-awareness and a positive relationship with their body
    • Learn and practice techniques designed to create peace, strength and balance in their body and mind
    • Strengthen connections to the community, nature and to themselves
    • Relax and release stress and tension
    • Explore their imagination
    • Foster self-expression

Music Programs

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Facilitated by an accredited music therapist
  • Incorporates a hello song, musical activities targeting body awareness, speech/ language development and dance/movement, song writing, exploration of musical culture and music making ending with a goodbye song
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop and improve expressive and receptive speech and language skills
    • Explore emotions in a safe and protected setting
    • Express and communicate verbally and non-verbally with others in a playful manner
    • Learn and develop rhythm and musicality
    • Explore and experience musical instruments of sorts
    • Find enjoyment through music and movement

Music + Art Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • The 1.5 hr long class allows participants to more deeply engage in the creative, sensory experience
  • Incorporates both music and art to encourage self expression and exploration. Each class will cover a varied program of creative and imaginative music making and artistic activities designed to take the participants on an exciting creative adventure!
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop tools for creative self expression, in turn building self-worth and confidence
    • Improve verbal and non-verbal expression
    • Build social skills and use them appropriately with their peers in a safe space
    • Develop and improve fine motor skills
    • Expand creative thinking abilities
    • Develop ability to sequence and improve memory
    • Explore thought processes, and emotions in a creative and therapeutic manner
    • Stimulate senses and receive sensory feedback through the use of various traditional and non-traditional art materials

Youth Karate Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Traditional style Karate modified to meet the unique, individual needs incorporating a traditional opening of class, warm-up, karate basics (punches, blocks, kicks), kiai (sound of empowerment), self defense basics (time permitting), potential for partner work and karate drills, ending with a cool down and a traditional closing to the class.
  • Created to help participants:
    • Learn simple, fundamental, karate basics
    • Develop confidence and be empowered
    • Develop and improve gross motor skills and physical coordination
    • Promote balance awareness and a mind body connection
    • Engage in an individual activity in a group environment
    • Offered in a safe and welcoming setting
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers

Sensory Sport Fit Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses (activities will be adaptable for those with restricted physical movement)
  • Incorporates both physical fitness and team sport activities with a sensory element to help participants achieve a range of different developmental goals
  • An exciting way to learn about team sports and the skills involved in an inclusive environment
  • Designed to help participants:
    • Improve fine and gross motor skills as well as all aspects of coordination through a range of sensory based fitness and sport activities
    • Gain awareness and control of their body and how it moves in space
    • Develop flexibility and muscle tone
    • Increase fitness and develop healthy habits
    • Build social skills and use them appropriately with their peers in a safe environment
    • Develop ability to sequence and improve muscle memory
    • Offer a sensory experience that is exciting and fun

Hang + Play Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • An afternoon of movement, music, art and sensory exploration doubling as a respite opportunity for parents
  • Every month will incorporate a new theme and every week will incorporate a range of activities designed to meet developments goals and invite participants to engage, socialize and have fun!
  • Created to help participants:
    • Build social skills and use them appropriately with their peers in a safe space
    • Spend spare time meaningfully
    • Improve verbal and non-verbal expression
    • Develop and improve fine and gross motor skills
    • Expand creative thinking abilities
    • Stimulate senses and calm the body and mind through creative sensory experiences
    • Simply have fun in a loosely structured afternoon!
