PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Dubasov Dance & Wellness strives to offer a safe, positive and welcoming environment where students can create lasting friendships, build self confidence and experience joy through movement. Our specialized programs are tailored to the needs and abilities of the students and are taught at a pace that fosters success and growth. All programs focus on the creative process of learning and flourish on following the lead of the students when the opportunities arise.

Children-Teen Programs

Dance Programs

  • Designed for participants with physical needs including, but not limited to, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida and various development delays
  • Follow a ballet premise while incorporating various dance styles based on the abilities and interests of the participants
  • Incorporates components of dance technique, free movement exploration, various genres of music, props, imagery, partner work and choreography
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Gain awareness and control of their body in space
    • Explore their imagination
    • Foster self-expression
    • Develop musicality
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography

Movement Programs

  • Designed for participants diagnosed with Autism, ADD/ADHD and various cognitive and development delays
  • Incorporates components of various dance styles, movement exercises, free movement exploration, various genres of music, props, imagery, partner work, choreography (where appropriate), yoga and deep relaxation, heavy work activities and visual supports as necessary
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Gain awareness and control of their body in space
    • Explore their imagination
    • Foster self-expression
    • Releases excess energy
    • Decrease anxiety and gain independence
    • Improve cognitive understanding

Hip Hop Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Incorporates a warm-up, introduction to traditional hip hop moves, simple choreographed routines, freestyle dance activities ending with a cool down
  • Created to help participants:
    • Move their body in funky ways
    • Tap into their imagination with free style activities
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Improve cardiovascular function and muscle strength
    • Foster self expression
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography
    • Develop musicality

Tap Program

  • Designed for participants of varying diagnoses with independent mobility
  • Incorporates a warm-up, barre work, rhythm exercises, centre practice, across the floor movements, improvisation and games ending with a cool down and relaxation
  • Created to help participants:
    • Learn simple, fundamental tap technique
    • Develop a confident and strong sense of rhythm and musicality
    • Promote balance awareness
    • Be a part of a team – united by one sound
    • Engage in creative improvisation in a safe and welcoming environment
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Develop and improve fine and gross motor skills

Glee Club Programs

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Similar-aged siblings of participants are welcome to enrol at a discounted rate (where applicable – see Schedule/Reg’n Details & Pricing)
  • A musical-theatre based program that incorporates performing art forms including drama and mimicry, singing and musical activities and dance of varying styles
  • Created to help participants:
    • Explore their imagination
    • Build friendships in an inclusive environment
    • Improve verbal expression
    • Develop and improve expressive performance skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Learn to work in a collaborative manner
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography
    • Develop musicality

Yoga Programs

  • Designed for students of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Incorporates components of physical yoga postures, creative movement games, breath work, music, props, meditation, visualization, story-telling and deep relaxation
  • Created to help students:
    • Develop self-awareness and a positive relationship with their body
    • Learn and practice techniques designed to create peace, strength and balance in their body and mind
    • Strengthen connections to the community, nature and to themselves
    • Relax and release stress and tension
    • Explore their imagination
    • Foster self-expression

Music Programs

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Facilitated by an accredited music therapist
  • Incorporates a hello song, musical activities targeting body awareness, speech/ language development and dance/movement, song writing, exploration of musical culture and music making ending with a goodbye song
  • Created to help participants:
    • Develop and improve expressive and receptive speech and language skills
    • Explore emotions in a safe and protected setting
    • Express and communicate verbally and non-verbally with others in a playful manner
    • Learn and develop rhythm and musicality
    • Explore and experience musical instruments of sorts
    • Find enjoyment through music and movement

Creative Arts Program

  • Designed for participants of all abilities and diagnoses
  • Incorporates a warm-up exercise, overview of a theme-based project, creativity time and wrapping up with an opportunity to share participant creations
  • Created to help participants:
    • Embrace and explore self expression through individual or collective projects
    • Tap into their unique strengths and imagination
    • Develop and improve fine motor skills
    • Expand creative thinking abilities
    • Stimulate senses and receive sensory feedback through the use of various traditional and non-traditional art materials

Adult Programs

Adult Glee Club Program

  • Designed for participants 18+ of all abilities and diagnoses (accompanied by a support worker)
  • A musical-theatre based program that incorporates performing art forms including drama and mimicry, singing and musical activities and dance of varying styles
  • Created to help participants:
    • Explore their imagination
    • Build friendships in an inclusive environment
    • Improve verbal expression
    • Develop and improve expressive performance skills
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Learn to work in a collaborative manner
    • Practice and improve memory skills through choreography
    • Develop and improve musicality

Adult Yoga & Movement Program

  • Designed for participants 18+ of all abilities and diagnoses (accompanied by a support worker)
  • Incorporates both movement and yoga.  Classes will begin with a warm-up, following with engaging movement activities and dance routines of various genres based on interest and ability.  The latter part of the class will incorporate adaptive yoga poses and gentle stretches ending with deep relaxation.

    • Remain active
    • Build social relationships
    • Develop and improve gross and fine motor skills
    • Lengthen and relax muscles
    • Calm and connect body and mind
    • Ignite creativity
    • Interact co-operatively, positively and appropriately with peers
    • Increase awareness and control of their body in space
    • Foster self-expression
    • Increase self-worth and self-confidence

Adult Day Program

  • Designed for participants 18+ of all abilities and diagnoses (accompanied by a support worker)
  • Combining the benefits and enjoyment of our Glee Club and Yoga & Movement Programs plus an additional “Variety Hour” which includes art, baking, construction projects and so much more!
    The Day Program also includes a lunch break in which participants and support workers may engage in social interactions and activities.
  • All classes are adapted to the abilities of participants ensuring that everyone is able to partake and engage in all the activities. Activities will be modified to suit each individual’s needs.
  • Full Day Program Schedule
    10:00 – 11:30 am – Glee Club Class
    11:30 -12:30 pm – Lunch + Social Time
    12:30 – 2:00 pm – Yoga & Movement Class
    2:00 – 3:00 pm – Variety Hour

* Note: This is a pilot program and depending on the success of the fall session, winter and spring session dates may be added.

Parent Programs

Flow & Restore Yoga for Parents Program

  • Open to ALL parents of children with special needs
  • Incorporates breath awareness meditation, flowing yoga postures, restorative deep and gentle stretching and deep relaxation
  • Created to help participants:
    • Restore body and mind
    • Synchronize breath with movement
    • Build and increase strength, balance and flexibility
    • Release stress and tension
    • Improve posture and maintain range of motion throughout body
    • Stimulate under active or calm overactive organs
    • Embrace time for self in a safe and welcoming environment

Mom’s Night Out

Offered Sunday evenings on a bi-monthly basis, this evening out for mothers of special needs children, incorporates 1-hr yoga class followed by varying interactive presentations over tea and light snacks. Past presentations include: Essential Oils, David’s Tea tasting & Jamberry Nails.
An evening designed to help moms relax and connect in a safe and welcoming environment.
